Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
